A Turning Point + Our First Drop of the Year - Whimsy & Row

Hi all, it's me Rach!

February has felt like one of those months where everything is quietly shifting behind the scenes. Samples are approved, we’re officially in production, and for the first time in a long time I feel really grounded in what I’m building.

I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome over the years because I didn’t go to design school. I learned by doing, by working alongside incredibly talented designers, pattern makers, production managers, and factories, by making mistakes and obsessing over the details. Then it hit me recently… I’ve been doing this for eleven years. At some point you have to own that. I am a designer! This collection feels like a turning point for me. It feels confident, intentional, and very aligned.

Our first drop of the year is the Polka Dot Collection, and it’s small on purpose. Just two pieces. The fabric completely led the way. I found this sheer black and cream polka dot at Ragfinders downtown, which honestly feels like thrifting for fabric. Rolls of deadstock from other brands, waiting to be reimagined. That hunt still gives me the same excitement Whimsy was built on in the early vintage days. Using what already exists and giving it new life just feels right.

As soon as I saw the fabric, I knew we had to bring back the Ronnie Dress. We originally made it in a brown polka dot EcoVero and it sold out so quickly. Naming it after my dad after he passed made it deeply personal, so seeing it resonate with you has meant more than I can explain. We paired it with the Lena Top, our classic short sleeve button-up that somehow works in every fabric we try. The polka dot is sheer, so we created a slip for the dress, and the top can be layered however you want. Tank, lace bra, jeans, tights, boots. Dress it up, dress it down. The goal is always versatility without overthinking. Here’s a little sneak peek…

When the samples arrived, I immediately envisioned the shoot. Old Hollywood, classic Los Angeles energy. We rented a room at one of the city’s most iconic hotels and borrowed my friend Jessica’s vintage blue BMW convertible. A little bandana moment, soft glam, romantic light. It felt nostalgic but still fresh, which is exactly where I want this brand to live. Full BTS of the shoot is on insta!

We also welcomed Sam to the team to help with digital strategy. She had us go through a full brand audit, which forced me to clearly define who we are and where we’re going. It reinforced something I’ve always believed: Whimsy + Row is about balance. Whimsy is romantic and expressive. Row is minimal and grounded. You don’t have to live in one aesthetic. Some days you want soft and feminine, other days clean and tailored. We’re allowed to be both.

You’ve probably noticed pricing is lower right now. We’re simply clearing space for a fresh start in our new chapter. Smaller, more intentional collections are coming, and once new production lands, pricing will return to normal. For now, it’s a chance to grab something you’ve been eyeing before it’s gone. Thank you for being here through all the evolution. Whimsy + Row has grown with me, and I know many of you have grown alongside it. That’s the beauty of building something slowly and honestly. It gets to change as we change.

I’m so excited for what’s coming next.

With love,
Rach
